Built by operators. Backed for the long term.

We are former founders and CEOs, buying and partnering with founder-led outdoor services companies, starting in Texas and across the Sun Belt.

Prime Catalyst is an operator-led firm investing in founder-led outdoor services companies, building durable platforms across Texas and the Sun Belt.

Our partners have spent their careers running and scaling service businesses, sitting between the field and the boardroom. We pair institutional discipline with real operating experience.

We anchor with founder-led businesses, scale through disciplined M&A, and layer in the operating infrastructure most companies never get to build.

Platform I

Outdoor services.

Our first platform is a regional outdoor services business: landscape maintenance and the recurring services that surround it.

Why we started here. Outdoor services is large, fragmented, and recurring. Roughly 690,000 operators serve the U.S. market and no player holds more than about 3% of it: a long runway for consolidation, in a category our partners have spent their careers inside.

How we build it. We anchor a respected founder-led business, add complementary companies with conviction rather than volume, then layer in the operating infrastructure. Our approach section covers each step in detail.

What we’re looking for. Founder-led outdoor services companies where the owner wants a partner for the next chapter rather than an exit into a spreadsheet. Meaningful founder rollover is welcome and usually preferred.

Platform I
Outdoor Services
Sector Focus
Landscape, irrigation, tree, pest, mosquito, fencing
Target Size
$25M–$100M+ revenue (platform)
$2M–$15M+ revenue (bolt-on)
Geography
Texas and Sun Belt corridors, plus other U.S. high-growth metros
Structure
Majority equity with founder rollover; partnership-driven
01 / Recurring by nature
Demand that holds through cycles

Maintenance and seasonal services recur by definition. This is non-discretionary work that gets done in good years and lean ones alike.

02 / Density compounds
Real synergies, not modeled ones

Geographic density compounds advantages in routing, procurement, recruiting, and back office. The gains show up in the field, not just the model.

03 / Technology arriving now
A category meeting modern tools

Most operators in this industry still run on paper. Robotics, AI, and real operating software are arriving. We treat them as upside, never as the thesis.

Additional platforms will follow the same pattern: fragmented, recurring, service-led industries where operating experience is the edge.

Operators & Teams

Room to grow the right way

The infrastructure, tools, and support to scale, without losing what makes the business work.

an operator's perspective

When we say we have been in your seat, we mean it.

Our advisor Eric Bruss spent his career running the landscape business his family founded in 1952, then sold it to a private-equity-backed buyer.

Our Approach

Anchor. Scale. Accelerate.

01 / Anchor
Founder-led foundation

Start with a respected, founder-led landscape business and protect what makes it special — reputation, culture, and customer trust.

02 / Scale
Disciplined regional M&A

Bolt on complementary businesses with conviction, not volume. Density drives margin; the right add-ons drive durability.

03 / Accelerate
Operating infrastructure

Unified back office, route optimization, recruiting at scale, and the automation tools reshaping this industry.

WHAT CHANGES, AND WHAT DOES NOT

Most buyers will tell you they intend to protect what you built. Here is what we actually do, including the parts that are harder to say.

Why us?

What we offer is different. We are operators, not a corporate development team. One of us sold his own family’s landscape business to a private-equity-backed buyer and knows exactly how that process feels from your side of it. Our managing partners have founded, scaled, partnered with private equity and successfully exited multiple businesses in their careers. We buy fewer businesses and we stay closer to them. If what you want is a partner for the next stage, a say in how it goes, and a buyer who knows the difference between a route sheet and a spreadsheet, that is the conversation we are built for.

One of us has already been the seller in landscaping.

TRUST BUILT THROUGH EXPERIENCE

Eric Bruss spent his career running the landscape business his family founded in 1952. He sold it to a private- quity-backed buyer, years before Prime Catalyst existed and to a firm with no connection to us. He knows what the process feels like from the side o the table you are sitting on, and that perspective shapes how we run every conversation.

You spend thirty years building something, then thirty days deciding who gets it. What I wanted was a buyer who understood what they were actually buying.
